Witchblade’s back and this time she’s sexy
She may not be a hunk, but is most definitely a hero. The comic book this film is based on has always been unapologetically aimed at the average straight fanboy, but she does have a gay following. I know at least one gay boy whose a big fan, so this one goes out to the Wee’un…
NYC cop Sara Pezzini is heading to a theater near you, and this time it looks like producers have decided to embrace the signature scantily-clad look of the character a bit more than TNT. Platinum Studios, Top Cow Productions and Arclight Films are teaming up and hope to begin shooting in September.
From this teaser poster I’d say that Sarah will be fighting evil in nothing but her glove. Here’s hoping we get a morphing armored thong just like in the comic. She may be a biological woman, but she’s fierce and fabulous anyway. If the woman in the teaser is the final casting choice, I’ve been unable to find out the her name.

You may or may not remember the Witchblade TV series. It was short-lived (cancelled in 2002 after star Yancy Butler was ordered into alcohol rehab.) Yancy Butler never looked like this… It might have lasted longer if she had?
On the show, Jake (David Chokachi) was the pretty one.

TWO gay characters on new Justice League
Refresh my memory. Have we ever had a gay member of the JLA? (not just an ally or guest star, or someone whose sexuality is hinted at or sensationalized but a out proud card carrying member who dates). If so, please refresh my memory. But regardless, I bet there was never a team of 8 with TWO gay members! And we’ve got a lesbian in Batwoman and a bisexual with blue alien Starman, Mikaal Thomas. That 25% much better than that measly Kinsey 10% we’re usually given. Too bad they left that tidbit out of the CBR article… I wonder why? It seems significant detail to me.

While talking with CBR, James Dale Robinson let slip a few details about plans for his “Justice League” series: Green Lantern will “slip out from under the shadow of the Trinity” to lead the team (about time, even Aquaman had his own lineup – and he just talks to fish), the disparate lineup will all come together naturally due to a course of events, not by some super powered triumvirate sorting through dossiers, and finally that this team will have a “purpose that was different from the Justice League of America.”
James Dale Robinson’s Justice League Lineup includes: Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Green Arrow, The Atom (Ray Palmer), Shazam (Freddy Freeman), Supergirl, Batwoman, Starman (Mikaal Thomas, former ally of Starmen Jack and Ted Knight) and last and least… Congorilla??? (A.K.A. ongo Bill – a seven-foot tall, 90 year old, magical golden gorilla with the intelligence and the sophistication of a big game hunter).
“Justice League” #1 will feature artwork by Mauro Cascioli (“The Trials of Shazam”), but has yet to be solicited. “I think we are waiting for Mauro to finish some more, so probably the end of the summer,” said Robinson. “But what’s he done so far, especially with his colors, is beautiful.”
I’m really curious what kind of event will bring these 8 due to a natural confluence of events…

Young Avengers Presents 6: Hawkeye!
With Young Avengers 5 Stature coming out this week (more on that next) I was reminded that Alan Davis (Of Captain Britain, Excalibur and ClanDestine fame) will be taking up the pencilling chores for Young Avengers Presents 6: Hawkeye. Some of Alan Davis’ pencil sketches are below the Jim Cheung cover.
Newsarama’s Benjamin Ong Pang Kean spoke with Marvel’s Matt Fraction (The Punisher War Journal, Invincible Iron Man AND Uncanny X-Men as of 500 – he can sure churn it out) about the upcoming issue and revealed that it has a lot to do with the current Hawkeye meeting the original as Kate Bishop comes face to face with (not dead) Clint Barton.

Full article and interview at Newsarama
Will Clint find her worthy of his mantle? Has her rich absentee daddy noticed the money she used to fund the team and design costumes yet? How is it that she is such a natural with such a variety of weapons? Is she the Taskmasters daughter? – (his identity is still unrevealed, despite his tenure at the initiative). You have to wait a month for these answers (well not answers to all the questions, just the first). So far I think I’m the only one asking the rest.

ACTIVATE! launches Pride Friday, June 27th
Was a bit busy today. I’m working on ads for a new weekly event starting at the Lookout in San Francisco. ACTIVATE! (a pxlforge logo design) launches Pride Friday, June 21st 2008! It IS a superhero themed Pride party so expect deuling DJ’s, hot gogo boys and high profile guest stars decked out and dancing.

Illustrations all begin on paper. I first come up with a pose I like and once I’ve finished a basic version of the figure, I break out the vellum and design the clothes on a new layer so I can doodle all over it as I brainstorm. After The costume overlay is finished, then I draw the costume on my figure and ink it before scanning the image and coloring the file in Photoshop with dozens of multiplied layers over the black and white artwork.
