Reviews (why things rated where they did on my list), general thoughts and musings on this weeks comics (and of course a few spoilers) after the jump!

So far Heroes N Hunks has been viewed by gay geeks in 28 countries… so say hello and tell us what you read this week!

Action 864: Superman has some bonding time with old buddy Lightning Lad as Batman drops by the Fortress for a visit. The whole issue is narrated by the creepy voice of favorite Legion nemesis the TIME TRAPPER, and he drops some major hints sprinkled throughout the issue… He says he knows “the day New Krypton is born”, “the day Batman died” (and I’m guessing it is soon as TT says he doesn’t have to worry about Bats “anymore”). TT reveals he set up the recent Action legion events, and moves Karate Kid and Una’s corpses to an alley in New Earth’s Gotham City. It ends with a goodbye to Supes and he’s given a new flight ring with an emergency time travel recall (that ought to come in handy soon).

New Avengers 40: OK WOW. We get a great Skrull backstory explaining what has been going on since Marvel’s Illuminati had their little retconned excursion on the homeworld years ago. Skrull Princess Veranke speaks of a prophecy that begins with Galactus devouring the Skrull homeworld, but as most Cassandra types, is not believed and sent into banishment. Over the ensuing years, Skrulls have been studying DNA samples of Humans, Kree-spawned Inhumans, Mutants, as well as unlocking the mystic secrets of Dr. Strange. Once first element of the prophecy happens, Veranke becomes Queen and announces the rest of the prophecy - the Skrulls will have a new homeworld - Earth.

the Skrull Queen gazes on her intended disguise...Spiderwoman

Then we see the new superskrull prototypes and find out that the Queen plans to take a personal role in the infiltration and plans to replace Jessica Drew, AKA Spiderwoman herself.

DC Universe 0: I generally don’t like issues with a billion artists, too many cooks and all that. That said, this was a pretty fun ride. Its basically a sneak peak at all the epic storylines that are starting up simultaneously. We have quick glimpses of “Legion of 3 Worlds,” “Batman R.I.P.”, Something with Wonder Woman and a bunch of extras from 300, “Blackest Night,” Something on an epic scale with the Spectre, the Mysterious “Libra” organizing a new Secret Societyy for an unnamed “god” of evil. And finally we have what appears to be the return of Barry Allen… (its cryptic, but we hear the words “runner,” and “starter’s pistol” right before we a “flash” of lightning)

Avengers The Initiative: 12 Great story. its always great to see Henry Peter Gyrich get bitch slapped, even if only verbally. I’m glas Trauma isn’t dead, but wondering how he’s alive post-autopsy? Something linked to his shapeshifting ability suppose, akin to how the D&D spell polymorph returns all the targets hit points (yeah I’m a sometime gaming geek too). It was cool to see the graduates in costumed action, espically Could Nine. I also was happy to see Ultra-Girl in Ms. Marvel’s old togs. I wonder if she’ll meet the Ms. Marvel who walked out the Skrull ship. We’ll see!!!

Green Lantern 30: Geoff Johns continues to tell us things we didn’t know about Hal Jordan’s origin…If not for all the epic Skrull and Final Crisis tie-ins, this would have been much higher on my list. Great art, compelling story and SOMETHING NEW!

X-Men Legacy 210: Not that intrigued by the visions of death and failure that Exodus shows Charles Xavier in order to somehow make him want to lead the Acolytes (not quite getting Exodus’ thought process here). I’m more interested in the mini-tidbits we see of other X-People… Who are Scott and Emma dining with? What is Rogue doing heading into the outback again? What is the Hellfire Club up to (and what is Cronus - besides a mythological reference to the father of Zeus defeated by a self-fulfilling prophecy about his son).

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters 8: This final issue tied most of the existing subplots up in a neat little bow (and started one or 2 more). But it felt a bit rushed and I’d have liked more insight into the mysterious Miss Cosmos (but I have a feeling we’ll see her again soon).

Ex Machina 36: This is usually one of my very favorites, but not much happened this issue. Tony Harris art was amazing as ever, but the story felt like pure set up for something still to come. Aside from the first appearance of an anarchist biker chick who base jumps from the (remaining) World Trade Center Tower on a motorcycle with “Bush Sucks Cock” on her parachute, nothing to see here. (maybe the leatherclad biker babe with pigtails isn’t really aimed at my demographic…)

Thor Ages of Thunder 1: Marked as a one-shot - but continues in another one-shot. 2 tales of classic Asgard with Loki betraying not only Amora the Enchantress but also the population of Asgard in general as Thor saves the day.

Ultimate X-Men 93: Phoenix, Apocalypse, Stryfe (sort of kind of in a way but not really), Onslaught (sort of kind of in a way but not really) all in one story. I’m kind of over this semi-random blending of characters and arcs from all the ages of the X-Men. I’ll probably stick it out through #100 - I anticipate a Dark Phoenix story soon, as she is really out of the bag now.

Teen Titans 58: I knew they were going somewhere with the last few issues, and its ALMOST clear where that is. All shall be known to us soon. I think they are stretching it out to coincide with some upcoming events like Crisis and the supposed Terror Titans miniseries…

New Warriors 11: meh, I was more interested in what the ex-New Warriors in Initiative are up to. I hope they invade this title and reclaim the name from these wanna be warrior ex-mutants.

Legion of Super-Heroes 41: Last issue was great and felt like a new beginning, but this felt like backsliding… I know they are taking time to set up the political climate etc, but lets get it on already…

Teen Titans Year One: I like the original Titans, but they are being depicted as a bit inept. I understand they are just starting out at this stage… but defeated by “The Ant?” C’mon. And then they show us Kid Flash, Wonder Girl and Aqualad losing, but skip Robin beating the bad guy. Not much of a read in my opinion.
